At Lori Battaglia Designs, every project begins with one intention: “to honor the story behind the space”. Right now, I’m in the midst of a very special collaboration with Kindly Woven — and together, we’re bringing to life a custom drapery fabric that’s as meaningful as it is beautiful.

The design is rooted (quite literally!) in the rich heritage of New Orleans. At the heart of the pattern is the beloved fleur-de-lis, a symbol long associated with the city. But instead of using the traditional flat emblem or logo, the homeowner asked for the actual flower form. I then designed it in an Art Nouveau style — transforming it from symbol to bloom, fluid and organic, echoing the graceful movement and vibrant culture of New Orleans itself.

Why a Woven Drapery Felt Just Right

There’s a magic to woven textiles that printed fabrics can’t quite replicate — the depth, the texture, the way light dances across every thread. In this case, weaving the fleur motif into the fabric itself felt like the perfect medium. The design becomes part of the structure, not just the surface. It’s grounded and artfully crafted. The image below is the design on the loom – it is so exciting to see this special design being created!

Looking Ahead

This project is still in progress — and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come. I received the sample so the next step is to order the full yardage. What I thought was not possible is now the dream in progress. Kindly Woven has carefully given attention to every detail to this composition, to ensure the final fabric brings elegance to the space it’s destined for. They have been the perfect partner to guide me through this process.
